Drug intelligence / Profile preview
LBP-SA01 is a precision medicine developed by Locus Biosciences for the treatment of Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) infections, including bloodstream infections (BSIs). [1] It is an engineered bacteriophage product enhanced with CRISPR-Cas3 technology, designed to selectively target and eliminate S. aureus bacteria. [1, 3] This dual-mechanism approach combines the natural lytic ability of bacteriophages, viruses that infect and kill bacteria, with the DNA-shredding capability of CRISPR-Cas3, which targets the bacterial genome. [3, 8] This specificity allows it to kill pathogenic bacteria while leaving the patient's beneficial microbiome unharmed. [11]
