LbtA5 is a recombinant fusion protein designed for the treatment of malignant melanoma. It consists of lebestatin (lbt), a disintegrin that specifically binds to integrin α1β1, fused to annexin V (ANV), which binds to phosphatidylserine (PS). This dual-targeting approach allows LbtA5 to specifically recognize tumor cells and tumor-associated vasculature. In preclinical studies, LbtA5 demonstrated superior anti-tumor activity compared to annexin V alone, effectively reducing the viability of melanoma cells and inhibiting tumor angiogenesis in mouse xenograft models. The fusion protein has shown efficacy comparable to dacarbazine (DTIC) in slowing tumor volume growth and inducing necrosis in melanoma tissue.
