Overview

LCN13 shRNA is a short hairpin RNA construct designed to specifically silence the expression of the Lipocalin 13 (LCN13) gene. LCN13 is a secreted protein, or hepatokine, that belongs to the lipocalin family and plays a critical role in regulating systemic glucose homeostasis and insulin sensitivity. In metabolic research, LCN13 has been identified as a downstream target of the transcriptional cofactor TSC22D4; while TSC22D4 inhibition typically promotes LCN13 expression to improve metabolic profiles, the use of LCN13 shRNA serves to knock down the protein, thereby antagonizing its insulin-sensitizing effects. This molecular tool is primarily utilized in preclinical research to investigate the hepatic pathways governing glucose metabolism and to validate LCN13 as a potential therapeutic target for obesity-related insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes.
