LDC7559 is a potent, selective small molecule inhibitor of gasdermin D (GSDMD), a key effector protein in the process of pyroptosis—a form of programmed cell death associated with inflammation. By inhibiting GSDMD, LDC7559 blocks the formation of membrane pores that lead to cell lysis and the release of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as IL-1β. This action reduces microglial activation, neuronal pyroptosis, and inflammation in various models of brain injury, including subarachnoid hemorrhage and traumatic brain injury. Preclinical studies have shown that LDC7559 can ameliorate cerebral edema, reduce tissue loss, and promote neurological recovery by suppressing GSDMD-mediated pathways[1][3][5][6][7]. Its primary research applications are in neuroinflammation and immunology.
