Drug intelligence / Profile preview
LE-MPP is an ophthalmic formulation of the topical corticosteroid loteprednol etabonate engineered with Kala Pharmaceuticals’ mucus-penetrating particle (MPP) nanotechnology to enhance drug delivery to ocular tissues.[4][6] By coating drug-loaded nanoparticles to rapidly traverse the tear film mucus, LE-MPP achieves higher and more sustained loteprednol etabonate concentrations in the cornea, conjunctiva, aqueous humor and retina compared with conventional suspensions or gels, supporting development for anterior and posterior segment inflammatory eye diseases including post–cataract surgery inflammation and pain, retinal vein occlusion, diabetic macular edema, and meibomian gland disease.[2][4][6]
