Overview

**Lead-212 labeled calcium carbonate microparticles** is an experimental locoregional **radiopharmaceutical** for internal alpha therapy, consisting of the alpha-emitting radionuclide lead-212 adsorbed onto biocompatible calcium carbonate vaterite microparticles. The particles are designed for administration into body cavities, especially **intraperitoneal** delivery for peritoneal carcinomatosis and ovarian cancer, where decay of lead-212 and its daughters delivers highly localized cytotoxic alpha radiation to nearby tumor deposits without requiring tumor-specific ligand binding. The platform has been associated with development by Oncoinvent as a predecessor and conceptual analogue to radium-224 calcium carbonate microparticles, with similar manufacturing concepts but requiring on-site labeling because of the short approximately 10.6-hour half-life of lead-212.
