Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Lean fecal microbiota capsules are an investigational microbiome-based therapeutic developed by Amsterdam UMC. The product consists of fecal microbiota harvested from healthy, lean donors and processed into oral capsules for delivery. It is designed to treat metabolic disorders, including metabolic syndrome, obesity, and type 2 diabetes, by correcting gut dysbiosis and restoring a microbial profile associated with metabolic health. The therapeutic rationale is based on clinical evidence suggesting that fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) from lean donors can improve insulin sensitivity and glucose metabolism in recipients with metabolic syndrome. It is currently being evaluated in the RESET trial.
