Overview
Lecithinized iodine is an iodine-containing small molecule complex primarily indicated for the treatment of retinal and vitreous disorders. The drug consists of iodine complexed with lecithin, a formulation designed to provide a sustained release of iodine into the systemic circulation following oral administration. Its therapeutic mechanism involves enhancing retinal metabolism and accelerating the absorption of retinal hemorrhages, exudates, and vitreous opacities. It is widely utilized in East Asian clinical practice for managing conditions such as central retinal vein occlusion (CRVO), diabetic retinopathy, and age-related macular degeneration. Originally developed by Daiichi Pharmaceutical (now Daiichi Sankyo), it is marketed in China by Anhui Taienkang Pharmaceutical under the brand name Woliditing.
