Overview

Lecithinized superoxide dismutase (PC-SOD) is a modified recombinant human copper/zinc superoxide dismutase (Cu/Zn-SOD or SOD1) covalently conjugated with lecithin (phosphatidylcholine) derivatives. This modification significantly enhances the enzyme's affinity for cell membranes and extends its plasma half-life compared to the native enzyme, which is typically cleared rapidly. Developed by LTT Bio-Pharma, PC-SOD acts as a potent antioxidant by catalyzing the dismutation of superoxide anions into oxygen and hydrogen peroxide, thereby reducing oxidative stress-mediated tissue damage. It is currently in Phase 3 clinical development for the prevention of chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN) in patients with colorectal cancer receiving oxaliplatin-based regimens. Additionally, PC-SOD has been investigated for its therapeutic potential in other oxidative stress-related conditions, including idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) and ulcerative colitis.
