Overview

Ledipasvir is a direct-acting antiviral agent used in combination with other antivirals, most commonly sofosbuvir, for the treatment of chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection. It acts as an inhibitor of the HCV non-structural protein 5A (NS5A), a protein essential for viral RNA replication and assembly of new virions. By inhibiting NS5A, ledipasvir disrupts viral replication and reduces production of infectious virus particles. The drug was developed by Gilead Sciences and is primarily indicated for use in adults and children aged 3 years or older with certain genotypes of chronic hepatitis C[1][2][5].
