Leflazepidamine (also known as HH-001) is a novel small molecule acetylcholinesterase (AChE) inhibitor developed by Qingdao Huanghai Pharmaceutical for the treatment of mild to moderate Alzheimer's disease. It is a synthetic derivative designed to increase acetylcholine levels in the brain by inhibiting the enzyme responsible for its degradation, thereby addressing the cholinergic deficit characteristic of Alzheimer's. The drug has been evaluated in Phase 2 clinical trials in China to assess its safety, efficacy, and optimal dosing in patients aged 50 to 85. Its chemical structure is a fluorinated phenanthridine amine, which distinguishes it from other common AChE inhibitors like donepezil or galantamine.
