Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Leiwan Capsules is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) formulation developed and manufactured by Hebei Wanbang Fu Lin Pharmaceutical. The primary active ingredient is Leiwan, the sclerotium of the fungus *Omphalia lapidescens*. In traditional Chinese medicine, Leiwan is classified as an anthelmintic agent specifically used to treat various intestinal parasitic infections, most notably tapeworms (taeniasis), as well as hookworms and roundworms. The pharmacological action is attributed to a proteolytic enzyme (often referred to as omphalotin or Leiwan protease) contained within the fungus, which acts by digesting the proteins in the parasite's body wall, leading to its death and subsequent expulsion from the host's digestive tract. The drug is administered orally in capsule form and is currently approved and marketed in China.
