Overview
Lektinol (PS76A2) is a standardized aqueous mistletoe extract derived from *Viscum album L.*, specifically formulated to contain a consistent concentration of galactoside-specific mistletoe lectin (ML). Developed by Madaus AG (now part of Rottapharm Madaus), it acts as an immunomodulator and cytotoxic agent. The mistletoe lectins are thought to induce apoptosis in tumor cells and stimulate the immune system by increasing the activity of natural killer cells and lymphocytes. Clinically, it has been primarily investigated as a supportive care treatment for breast cancer patients undergoing adjuvant chemotherapy (such as CMF or FEC regimens) to improve quality of life and reduce treatment-related side effects. It is administered via subcutaneous injection.
