Overview

Lenalidomide is a thalidomide derivative and immunomodulatory agent used primarily to treat multiple myeloma, certain types of myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS), mantle cell lymphoma, follicular lymphoma, and marginal zone lymphoma. It works by modulating the immune system, inhibiting angiogenesis (the formation of new blood vessels in tumors), and directly killing abnormal cells in the bone marrow. Lenalidomide inhibits targets such as tumor necrosis factor alpha and cereblon[1][2][5]. Ancestim is a recombinant human stem cell factor used to increase the number and mobilization of peripheral blood progenitor cells for collection during autologous peripheral blood progenitor cell transplantation. It acts by stimulating hematopoietic stem cells via the c-Kit receptor[3][6]. The combination may be considered in clinical settings where both immunomodulation/anti-cancer effects (lenalidomide) and enhanced stem cell mobilization (ancestim) are desired.
