Lenvatinib + epirubicin is an investigational combination therapy comprising the multi-kinase inhibitor lenvatinib and the anthracycline chemotherapy agent epirubicin. Lenvatinib functions by inhibiting several receptor tyrosine kinases, including VEGFR1-3, FGFR1-4, PDGFRα, KIT, and RET, thereby suppressing tumor angiogenesis and proliferation. Epirubicin exerts its cytotoxic effect by intercalating into DNA and inhibiting topoisomerase II, which leads to DNA strand breaks and apoptosis. This combination is primarily being developed by The Second Affiliated Hospital of Air Force Medical University for the treatment of radioactive iodine-refractory differentiated thyroid cancer (RAIR-DTC), aiming to improve outcomes in patients who have failed standard treatments.
