Lenzumestrocel is an autologous bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cell therapy developed for the treatment of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). It is conditionally approved as an orphan drug in South Korea and marketed under the brand name Neuronata-R. The therapy involves extracting bone marrow from the patient, isolating and culturing mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs), and administering them intrathecally. Lenzumestrocel aims to slow ALS progression by targeting neuroinflammation, promoting neuroprotection, preventing motor neuron death, stimulating nerve cell growth, and modulating immune responses through the release of neurotrophic factors and anti-inflammatory molecules. Clinical trials have demonstrated safety and a therapeutic benefit lasting at least six months after administration[3][4][5][7].
