Overview
*Leonurus artemisia* extract (LaE), derived from Chinese motherwort (also known as *Leonurus japonicus* or YiMuCao), is a botanical extract investigated for its anti-proliferative and pro-apoptotic effects in oncology, particularly bladder cancer. In vitro studies demonstrate that LaE inhibits the proliferation of human bladder cancer cells (such as BFTC-905) by inducing G1/G0 phase cell cycle arrest and triggering apoptosis. Its mechanism of action involves the activation of the p38 mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) signaling pathway and the induction of reactive oxygen species (ROS) production. Historically used in traditional medicine for gynecological and obstetrical conditions, recent research focuses on its potential as a therapeutic agent for various malignancies.
