Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Leonurus japonicus extract (LJE), also known as Chinese motherwort or YiMuCao extract, is a botanical extract derived from the herb *Leonurus japonicus*. It is being investigated for its therapeutic potential in detrusor underactivity (DU) and bladder cancer. In preclinical models of DU, LJE demonstrates disease-modifying effects by enhancing hypoxia adaptation (upregulating HIF-1α and iNOS), reducing apoptosis (downregulating Bax and cleaved caspase-3), and suppressing inflammation and fibrosis. In bladder cancer models, LJE inhibits tumor cell proliferation, impairs cell migration, and induces G1/G0 cell cycle arrest and apoptosis, a process mediated by the activation of the p38 mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) signaling pathway and increased reactive oxygen species (ROS) production.
