Overview

Leptolide is a natural furanocembranolide diterpene originally isolated from the octocorals *Leptogorgia alba* and *Leptogorgia rigida*. Preclinical studies have demonstrated that leptolide acts as an insulin sensitizer, enhancing post-receptor insulin signaling and promoting pancreatic beta-cell proliferation. It has been investigated for its potential therapeutic application in type 2 diabetes mellitus and insulin resistance. Additionally, leptolide exhibits anti-inflammatory and anti-glioinflammatory properties, reducing microglial activation and gliosis in animal models of obesity.
