Research presented at the AACR 2026 meeting investigated its methanolic and ethyl acetate crude extracts for potential antineoplastic and antimetastatic properties. In vitro studies on pancreatic (MIA PaCa-2) and prostate (PC3) cancer cells demonstrated that the methanolic extract induces apoptosis, characterized by Caspase 3/7 activation and DNA fragmentation. The extract's mechanism of action involves the upregulation of the RB1 tumor suppressor and Checkpoint kinase 1 (CHEK1), leading to cell cycle arrest and DNA damage-induced programmed cell death. It also exhibits inhibitory effects on cell migration, suggesting antimetastatic potential.
