Drug intelligence / Profile preview
LepVax (LEP-F1 + GLA-SE) is a recombinant protein subunit vaccine candidate developed by the Access to Advanced Health Institute (AAHI) for the prevention of leprosy. The vaccine is composed of a fusion protein antigen, LEP-F1, which incorporates four immunodominant proteins from *Mycobacterium leprae* (ML2531, ML2380, ML2055, and ML2028), formulated with the adjuvant GLA-SE (Glucopyranosyl Lipid A in a stable emulsion). GLA-SE acts as a synthetic Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) agonist, designed to enhance the induction of a robust Th1-type cellular immune response. This mechanism is intended to provide long-term protection against infection and prevent the development of leprosy-associated nerve damage. LepVax is currently being evaluated in Phase 1 clinical trials to assess its safety, tolerability, and immunogenicity in healthy adults.
