Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**Lercanidipine + valsartan** is an oral fixed-dose antihypertensive combination developed by LG Life Sciences and subsequently LG Chem, marketed in South Korea as **Levacalm Tab.** It combines lercanidipine, a dihydropyridine blocker of L-type voltage-dependent calcium channels that reduces arterial smooth-muscle calcium influx and vasodilation, with valsartan, a selective angiotensin II type 1 receptor antagonist that suppresses angiotensin II-mediated vasoconstriction and aldosterone signaling. The product is indicated for essential hypertension, including patients whose blood pressure is inadequately controlled with lercanidipine monotherapy. Clinical development evaluated 10 mg/80 mg, 10 mg/160 mg, and 20 mg/160 mg lercanidipine/valsartan dose combinations. ([clinicaltrials.gov](https://clinicaltrials.gov/study/NCT01122251))
