Let-7d-3p antagomir is a chemically modified antisense oligonucleotide designed to specifically inhibit the biological function of the microRNA let-7d-3p. As an antagomir, it works by competitively binding with high affinity to the mature let-7d-3p sequence, thereby preventing the microRNA from interacting with its target messenger RNAs (mRNAs) and silencing their expression. In preclinical research, let-7d-3p antagomir has been utilized to investigate the role of this microRNA in various disease models. In ovarian cancer studies, inhibition of let-7d-3p has been shown to activate apoptosis and enhance sensitivity to chemotherapy agents like carboplatin. Conversely, in models of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF), the reduction of let-7d activity via antagomirs has been associated with increased collagen deposition and fibrotic progression. It is primarily used as a research reagent for loss-of-function studies rather than a commercial therapeutic.
