Overview

LetibotulinumtoxinA is a 150 kDa botulinum toxin type A derived from *Clostridium botulinum*. Developed by the South Korean company Hugel, it is marketed under the brand name Botulax (and Letybo in certain markets). The drug functions as a neuromuscular blocking agent by selectively cleaving the SNAP-25 protein, a component of the SNARE complex required for the exocytosis of acetylcholine from presynaptic nerve terminals. This inhibition results in temporary muscle paralysis. For benign masseteric hypertrophy, letibotulinumtoxinA is injected into the masseter muscles to induce disuse atrophy, effectively reducing muscle volume and contouring the lower face. It is approved in South Korea for this indication and is widely used globally for aesthetic and therapeutic purposes, including glabellar lines and spasticity.
