Overview

LetroSYM is an oral small molecule aromatase inhibitor developed and manufactured by Symbion Life Science, containing letrozole as its active pharmaceutical ingredient. It is primarily indicated for the treatment of hormone receptor-positive breast cancer in post-menopausal women. The drug functions by competitively and reversibly binding to the heme group of the aromatase enzyme (CYP19A1), which is responsible for the final step in estrogen biosynthesis—the conversion of androgens (such as androstenedione and testosterone) into estrogens (estrone and estradiol). By significantly reducing systemic and local estrogen levels, LetroSYM inhibits the growth of estrogen-dependent breast cancer cells. It is typically administered as a 2.5 mg tablet once daily.
