Overview

This combination therapy, investigated by Tabriz University of Medical Sciences, consists of letrozole, clomiphene citrate, oxytocin, and human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) for the treatment of infertility in women with clomiphene citrate-resistant polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). Letrozole and clomiphene citrate function as ovulation induction agents by modulating estrogen levels and receptors to stimulate follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) release. Human chorionic gonadotropin acts as a surrogate for the luteinizing hormone (LH) surge to trigger ovulation, while oxytocin is studied for its potential role in enhancing follicular rupture and oocyte release. The regimen was evaluated in a Phase 2 clinical trial to compare various combinations of these agents for improving clinical pregnancy rates.
