Overview

Leucine phosphonic acid is a synthetic analog of the amino acid leucine, in which the carboxylic acid group is replaced by a phosphonic acid moiety. It is classified as an organic phosphonic acid and has the molecular formula C5H14NO3P with a molecular weight of approximately 167.14. Leucine phosphonic acid acts as a bioactive small molecule and has been studied primarily as an experimental compound, not approved for clinical use. Its primary research interest lies in its role as an inhibitor of aminopeptidases, particularly leucine aminopeptidase and alanyl aminopeptidase (APN). Studies have shown that it can inhibit these enzymes at low micromolar concentrations, making it useful for probing enzyme function or potentially modulating processes such as angiogenesis and tumorigenesis in preclinical models[5]. However, there are no approved indications or clinical trials involving this compound to date[1][2][3].
