Overview

Leucogen is a small molecule cysteine derivative primarily utilized for the treatment and prevention of leukopenia and neutropenia, particularly those induced by chemotherapy or radiation therapy. It functions by stimulating the bone marrow to increase the production of white blood cells (WBCs) and platelets. Beyond its standard use in hematological recovery, Leucogen has been investigated as a prophylactic agent to mitigate the side effects of targeted therapies, such as Pralsetinib in patients with RET fusion-positive non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). It has also shown efficacy in treating thrombocytopenia and leukopenia associated with alcoholic liver cirrhosis. The drug is typically administered orally in tablet form.
