Overview
*Leuconostoc mesenteroides* NTM048 is a specific strain of lactic acid bacteria investigated for its potential as a live biotherapeutic or probiotic treatment for inflammatory conditions, particularly psoriasis. In preclinical models, oral administration of NTM048 has been shown to ameliorate imiquimod-induced psoriasis-like skin inflammation by downregulating interleukin-17 (IL-17) expression. The mechanism involves modulation of the intestinal microbiota, leading to increased levels of plasma deoxycholic acid (DCA), a secondary bile acid that suppresses IL-17 production in splenocytes. It also promotes the abundance of beneficial bacteria like *Akkermansia* while reducing pathogenic taxa such as *Staphylococcus* and *Streptococcus*.
