Leugon

Leugon is a biodegradable subcutaneous implant containing leuprorelin acetate, a gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) agonist. Developed by AMW GmbH and marketed by its subsidiary Endomedica, it is specifically indicated for the symptomatic treatment of advanced hormone-dependent prostate cancer. The drug works by initially stimulating and subsequently downregulating GnRH receptors in the pituitary gland, leading to a profound reduction in the release of luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH). This results in the suppression of testosterone production to castrate levels, thereby inhibiting the growth of hormone-sensitive prostate tumors. The product is supplied as a ready-to-use prefilled syringe containing an 11.25 mg implant, designed for sustained release over several months without the need for reconstitution steps prior to application.
