Leukocyte-rich platelet-rich plasma (LR-PRP) is an autologous biologic therapy derived from the patient's own blood, characterized by a high concentration of platelets and leukocytes (white blood cells) compared to baseline levels. In the context of the Early Phase 1 trial conducted by the Iffat Anwar Medical Complex, LR-PRP is being investigated for the treatment of refractory low back pain specifically associated with multifidus muscle dysfunction. The therapy aims to promote tissue healing and regeneration within the multifidus muscle, which often exhibits fatty infiltration and atrophy in chronic back pain patients. It is administered via intramuscular injection, often in combination with other modalities like pulsed radiofrequency neuromodulation and physiotherapy to enhance functional recovery and reduce pain.
