Overview
LEUMUNA is a novel, oral small molecule inhibitor of purine nucleoside phosphorylase (PNP), developed for the treatment of leukemia relapse after allogeneic stem cell transplantation. It acts as an immune checkpoint modulator and has demonstrated significant survival benefits in mouse models of B cell acute leukemia relapse. The compound is a patented chemical entity and has received Orphan Drug Designation from the US FDA in 2022. LEUMUNA aims to achieve durable remission in patients with post-transplant leukemia relapse—a rare condition with poor prognosis—and is currently at the pre-IND stage. The drug was originally discovered by Laevoroc Immunology AG and acquired by Helix BioPharma Corp., which now leads its development[1][2].
