Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Leuplin PRO is a long‑acting 24‑week depot formulation of the gonadotropin‑releasing hormone (GnRH) analogue leuprorelin acetate, developed by Takeda as a subcutaneous injection kit for the treatment of hormone‑dependent prostate cancer and premenopausal breast cancer in Japan.[3][4] As an LH‑RH (GnRH) agonist, leuprorelin persistently stimulates pituitary GnRH receptors, causing an initial surge and then profound downregulation of luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle‑stimulating hormone (FSH), which in turn suppresses gonadal steroidogenesis and reduces circulating testosterone and estrogen to castrate or postmenopausal levels.[2][3][4][5] Leuplin PRO uses Takeda’s microcapsule sustained‑release technology to maintain stable leuprorelin plasma concentrations over approximately 24 weeks following a single 22.5 mg injection, thereby offering less frequent dosing while providing continuous endocrine suppression for patients requiring long‑term hormonal therapy.[3][4]
