AM0803 is a biodegradable, melt-extruded controlled-release implant containing 11.25 mg of leuproreline acetate, developed by AMW GmbH. It is designed for the treatment of hormone-dependent oncology indications, primarily advanced prostate cancer, providing a sustained release of the active ingredient over a three-month period. As a gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) receptor agonist, leuproreline initially stimulates the pituitary gland but subsequently leads to receptor downregulation and desensitization. This process results in the suppression of luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) secretion, ultimately reducing serum testosterone or estrogen to castrate levels and inhibiting the growth of hormone-sensitive tumors.
