Overview
**Leuvectin** is an investigational nonviral cancer gene-therapy product developed by Vical. It consists of the VCL-1102 plasmid DNA expression vector, which encodes human interleukin-2, complexed with the cationic lipid formulation DMRIE/DOPE. Following local intratumoral administration, transfected tumor and surrounding cells produce biologically active interleukin-2, intended to activate interleukin-2 receptor signaling and promote antitumor cellular immune responses. Clinical development reached Phase 2 in several oncology settings, including prostate cancer and renal cell carcinoma, but the program was not approved.
