LEV001

LEV001 is an investigational small molecule prodrug of levodopa being developed by Reach Pharmaceuticals for the treatment of Parkinson's disease. It is designed as a long-acting formulation to provide continuous dopaminergic stimulation, aiming to maintain stable plasma levels of levodopa and thereby reduce the motor fluctuations (such as "off" periods) and levodopa-induced dyskinesia commonly associated with standard intermittent levodopa dosing. Upon oral administration, LEV001 is metabolically converted into levodopa, which subsequently crosses the blood-brain barrier and is decarboxylated into dopamine. This replenished dopamine activates dopamine receptors in the striatum to alleviate the motor symptoms of the disease. LEV001 is currently being evaluated in Phase 1 clinical trials to assess its safety, tolerability, and pharmacokinetic profile in humans.
