H062 (levamlodipine nicotinate) is a small molecule calcium channel blocker (CCB) developed by Shanghai Huilun Pharmaceutical for the treatment of essential hypertension. It is the nicotinate salt of levamlodipine, which is the pharmacologically active S-enantiomer of the racemic amlodipine. By selectively blocking L-type voltage-gated calcium channels in vascular smooth muscle, levamlodipine inhibits the influx of calcium ions, resulting in peripheral vasodilation and a subsequent reduction in blood pressure. The use of the S-enantiomer is intended to maintain the antihypertensive efficacy of amlodipine while potentially reducing the incidence of side effects, such as peripheral edema, which are often associated with the R-enantiomer or the racemic mixture. H062 has been evaluated in Phase 3 clinical trials in China to establish its safety and efficacy in patients with Grade 1 or 2 essential hypertension.
