Overview
Levera is an anti-epileptic medication developed and marketed by Intas Pharmaceuticals, containing the active ingredient levetiracetam. As a small molecule drug, it is indicated for the treatment of various seizure types in patients with epilepsy, including partial-onset, myoclonic, and tonic-clonic seizures. Its primary mechanism of action involves binding to the synaptic vesicle protein 2A (SV2A), which is thought to modulate the release of neurotransmitters and reduce hypersynchronous neuronal firing. Additionally, it has been shown to inhibit N-type voltage-gated calcium channels. Levera is available in several formulations, such as immediate-release tablets, extended-release tablets (Levera XR), oral solutions, and injectable forms, allowing for flexible dosing as either monotherapy or adjunctive treatment in both pediatric and adult populations.
