Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Levilimab is a fully human monoclonal antibody that acts as an antagonist of the interleukin 6 receptor (IL-6R). It was originally developed for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis, particularly in patients resistant to methotrexate monotherapy. Levilimab inhibits IL-6 signaling, thereby reducing inflammation and modulating immune responses. It has also been investigated for use in severe COVID-19 to mitigate cytokine storm effects and improve clinical outcomes. The drug is administered either intravenously or subcutaneously and has demonstrated efficacy and safety in phase III clinical trials for both rheumatoid arthritis and severe COVID-19[1][3][7][10].
