Levo-bencyclane hydrochloride is the levorotatory enantiomer of bencyclane, a synthetic vasodilator and antispasmodic agent. Developed by the Institute of Toxicology and Pharmacology at the Academy of Military Medical Sciences in China, it is primarily investigated for the prevention of motion sickness (specifically carsickness). The drug acts as a calcium channel blocker and also exhibits local anesthetic and anti-serotonin properties. By inhibiting calcium influx into smooth muscle cells and potentially modulating vestibular sensitivity, it helps alleviate symptoms of motion-induced nausea and dizziness. It has been evaluated in Phase 3 clinical trials in China, where its efficacy and safety were compared against placebo and the racemic form of bencyclane hydrochloride.
