Overview

Reshuxin is a brand name for levoamlodipine besylate, the chirally pure (S)-enantiomer of the dihydropyridine calcium channel blocker amlodipine. Developed and manufactured by Shandong New Era Pharmaceutical (a subsidiary of Lunan Pharmaceutical Group), it is indicated for the treatment of hypertension and angina pectoris. Levoamlodipine selectively inhibits the influx of calcium ions through L-type calcium channels into vascular smooth muscle and cardiac muscle cells, resulting in peripheral vasodilation and reduced myocardial oxygen demand. By excluding the (R)-enantiomer, which is thought to contribute to side effects like peripheral edema without providing significant antihypertensive activity, levoamlodipine aims to offer a better tolerability profile compared to racemic amlodipine.
