Overview

Levobupivacaine + propofol is a combination of two pharmaceutical agents used primarily in anesthesia. Levobupivacaine is a long-acting amide-type local anesthetic that works by blocking voltage-gated sodium channels on neuronal membranes, thereby inhibiting nerve impulse conduction and providing regional or local anesthesia[6]. Propofol is an intravenous sedative-hypnotic agent used for the induction and maintenance of general anesthesia or sedation; it acts as a positive allosteric modulator at the gamma-aminobutyric acid type A (GABA-A) receptor, enhancing inhibitory neurotransmission in the central nervous system[2][8][10]. The combination may be employed during surgical procedures to provide both regional analgesia (from levobupivacaine) and sedation or general anesthesia (from propofol). This approach can allow for lower doses of each drug, potentially reducing adverse effects while maintaining effective anesthesia[1].
