levocabastine

Levocabastine is a selective, second-generation histamine H1 receptor antagonist developed for the management of allergic conjunctivitis and allergic rhinitis. It acts by competitively inhibiting histamine binding at H1 receptors on effector cells, thereby preventing—but not reversing—histamine-mediated responses such as inflammation, itching, watering, and burning in the eyes and nasal passages. Levocabastine also exhibits partial agonist activity at neurotensin receptor type 2. The drug is administered topically via ophthalmic or intranasal routes and is systemically absorbed at low levels after ocular administration. It was discovered by Janssen Pharmaceutica in 1979[1][4][7].
