Drug intelligence / Profile preview
TR-012001 is an investigational intranasal powder formulation of levodopa developed for the on-demand treatment of OFF episodes in patients with Parkinson's disease. Levodopa is a dopamine precursor that crosses the blood-brain barrier and is converted to dopamine in the brain, providing antiparkinsonian effects. The intranasal route aims to offer rapid symptom relief during OFF episodes, which are periods when standard oral levodopa therapy becomes less effective due to disease progression or pharmacokinetic variability. The drug has completed phase II clinical trials in Japan and is being developed by SNLD, a subsidiary of Shin Nippon Biomedical Laboratories[1][2][3][7][9].
