Levodopa + carbidopa + ODM-104 is a fixed-dose combination therapy under investigation for the treatment of Parkinson's disease. Levodopa is a precursor of dopamine that crosses the blood-brain barrier and is converted to dopamine in the brain, helping to alleviate motor symptoms associated with Parkinson's disease. Carbidopa acts as an inhibitor of aromatic L-amino acid decarboxylase (AADC), preventing peripheral conversion of levodopa to dopamine, thereby increasing its availability in the central nervous system and reducing side effects such as nausea. ODM-104 is a novel catechol-O-methyltransferase (COMT) inhibitor developed by Orion Corporation, designed to further enhance levodopa bioavailability by inhibiting its breakdown via COMT, thus providing more continuous dopaminergic stimulation. The combination aims to improve symptom control and reduce motor fluctuations compared with standard therapies[4][8].
