Drug intelligence / Profile preview
CVT-301 is an inhaled formulation of levodopa (L-DOPA) designed for the intermittent treatment of OFF episodes in patients with Parkinson’s disease who are already being treated with a carbidopa/levodopa regimen. Delivered as a dry powder via a breath-actuated inhaler device, CVT-301 provides rapid systemic absorption of levodopa through pulmonary administration. This results in faster onset of action compared to oral formulations, helping to quickly alleviate motor symptoms during OFF periods. The drug is indicated as an adjunct therapy and can be administered up to five times daily as needed. Clinical studies have demonstrated that CVT-301 significantly improves motor function (as measured by UPDRS Part III scores) within 20–30 minutes post-dose and maintains efficacy over at least 12 weeks. The most common adverse events include cough and upper respiratory tract infections; overall, the safety profile is favorable and comparable to placebo.
