Overview

Levodoxazosin mesylate is a small molecule alpha-1 adrenergic receptor (ADRA1) antagonist being developed by NCPC New Drug Research & Development (a subsidiary of North China Pharmaceutical Group) for the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). It is the levo-enantiomer of doxazosin, a quinazoline derivative. By blocking alpha-1 receptors in the smooth muscle of the prostate and bladder neck, levodoxazosin mesylate reduces muscle tone and improves urinary flow in patients with BPH. The development of the single isomer aims to optimize the pharmacological profile compared to the racemic doxazosin. It is currently in Phase 1 clinical trials.
