Levofloxacin + tigecycline is an antibiotic combination therapy used to treat various bacterial infections, particularly those caused by multidrug-resistant organisms. This combination has been studied for treating nosocomial pneumonia caused by New Delhi Metallo-β-Lactamase-1-Producing Raoultella and has shown efficacy against clinical isolates of carbapenem-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae (CRKP). The combination works through tigecycline's inhibition of bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 30S ribosomal subunit and levofloxacin's inhibition of bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, preventing DNA replication. In vitro studies have shown that this combination can produce synergistic or additive effects against certain bacterial strains, though some antagonistic effects have also been observed in certain isolates.
