Drug intelligence / Profile preview
levofloxacin + amoxicillin is a combination antibiotic regimen consisting of the fluoroquinolone levofloxacin and the beta-lactam amoxicillin. This dual-antibiotic protocol has been utilized as an active comparator in clinical trials, specifically for the treatment of uncomplicated recurrent urinary tract infections (rUTI). Levofloxacin acts by inhibiting bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, which are essential for DNA replication, transcription, and repair. Amoxicillin inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), leading to cell lysis. The regimen typically involves levofloxacin 200 mg twice daily and amoxicillin 500 mg three times daily for one week.
