Levofloxacin + amoxicillin + clarithromycin is a combination of three antibiotics used as part of triple therapy regimens for the eradication of Helicobacter pylori infection. Each component has a distinct mechanism of action: - Levofloxacin is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic that inhibits bacterial DNA topoisomerase II (DNA gyrase), preventing DNA replication and transcription. - Amoxicillin is a beta-lactam antibiotic that inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to penicillin-binding proteins. - Clarithromycin is a macrolide antibiotic that binds to the 50S ribosomal subunit, inhibiting protein synthesis in susceptible bacteria. This combination may be used as an alternative or rescue regimen, particularly in regions with high resistance rates to standard therapies or after failure of first-line treatments. The regimen targets H. pylori by attacking different aspects of bacterial survival and replication, aiming for higher eradication rates and overcoming some patterns of resistance[1][2][8].
